The Reading Cafe: A Balanced Literacy Approach with Guided Reading
Description:
Join The Reading Cafe workshop to learn and refresh ideas for your guided reading groups and instruction. Guided reading does not just consist of one leveled book. Come to learn about The Cafe Strategies by the two sisters, Gail Boushey & Joan Moser to spice up your guided reading groups. Through this engaging workshop you will learn how to embed guided reading into a balanced literacy model, learning the process and best practices when conducting guided reading groups. A variety of management ideas will be presented to make sure you are meeting the needs of each student. You won’t be disappointed with the additional decadent items we will add to your strategy menu.

You will leave the day with a variety of reading strategies to incorporate into your daily instruction and redevelop your guided reading lessons to have more impact your learners and less time planning for you!

This workshop will be presented by Nicole Stroup, ELA Coordinator for Lake County Educational Services. Prior to this role she was a reading specialist and instructional coach for K-5 students, as well as a second grade teacher who embedded Daily 5 and CAFE into daily lessons.
